COBOL Miner Leverages Rational Rose and Accelerates Legacy Migration Initiatives
Falls Church , VA, October 16, 2001--
Blueprint Technologies, a leading provider of software solutions for the Global 2000, today announced general availability of COBOL Miner that enables organizations with COBOL systems to document, map out and automate the mining process of those legacy systems. COBOL Miner greatly reduces the time and effort required to model complex legacy software systems in COBOL. COBOL Miner helps organizations improve their documentation by mapping out the software code and dependencies in the existing legacy system.
Blueprint Technologies’ COBOL Miner is an effective tool to use for organizations currently using Rational Rose for visual modeling. Rational Rose is an object-oriented analysis and design tool that runs on Windows and UNIX platforms from Rational Software. COBOL Miner helps software engineers and analysts to quickly understand the functional and structural organization of large-scale existing COBOL software systems. By modeling the COBOL source code, the tool creates a graphical representation of the existing COBOL software system. Created within Rational Rose, the graphical representation leverages the Unified Modeling Language (UML). COBOL Miner enables organizations to understand what code resources they have, allows for reverse engineering, and improves documentation enabling organizations to make focused and targeted decisions.
“Offering COBOL Miner as a stand-alone product helps our customers leverage their resources to their fullest capabilities and builds on Blueprint’s mission to improve software reuse and leverage existing investments,” said Ralph Alexander, CEO and President of Blueprint Technologies. “COBOL Miner enables organizations to take advantage of billions of lines of actively deployed code and rapidly improve the legacy migration process.”
