VANGENT, INC. COMMITTED TO PROVIDING MEANINGFUL WORK OPPORTUNITIES FOR PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES
People-Oriented Corporate Culture Embraces Unique Contributions of Every Individual
Arlington, VA,
June 11, 2007 - Vangent, Inc., a leading global provider of information management and business process outsourcing solutions, continues to demonstrate its longstanding commitment to providing meaningful work opportunities for persons with disabilities. The company has a long tradition of creating a work environment in which all talent is valued and respected as an essential part of its business. Persons with disabilities play an important role in key areas of many of Vangent’s programs, including service delivery and customer interaction management.
Vangent identifies opportunities for persons with disabilities to work on contracts with customers such as the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Department of Education/Federal Student Aid. Through outreach to organizations such as the Committee for Purchase from People Who Are Blind or Severely Disabled (AbilityOne Program), Vangent recruits capable individuals and employs assistive technology to ensure they are equipped with the right tools and accommodations to perform and succeed in their jobs.
For example, in April 2006, Vangent began working to identify visually impaired candidates who would succeed in Vangent’s CDC-INFO program environment. The CDC-INFO program handles a broad spectrum of inquiries on behalf of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and Vangent’s customer service representatives (CSRs) are responsible for a wide range of content knowledge. Vangent applied the same strict criteria it follows for all of its new-hire candidates and conducted face-to-face interviews with multiple blind candidates. Prior to beginning the training cycle Vangent had essential training materials translated into Braille. The company also integrated special assistive software with its content management system. Over a year later, the blind CSR hired through this process remains a valuable member of Vangent’s CDC-INFO program team and continues to meet high performance expectations.
“At Vangent, we are proud of our creative, innovative and diverse environment,” stated Mac Curtis, President and Chief Executive Officer. “We need the widest range of minds and imaginations at work throughout our business to support our continued growth and success. By accommodating persons with disabilities, we’re able to tap into the talents of a more diverse workforce, and we all benefit.”
