Blueprint Technologies and Serlio Software Announce New Solution To Automate Analysis and Maintenance of Legacy Cobol Systems

Vienna, VA, April 9, 2003-Blueprint Technologies, Inc., and Serlio Software Development Corp. today announced the general availability of COBOLMiner 2.0, a solution that automates analysis of COBOL-based software systems. CobolMiner 2.0 automatically analyzes and captures business and technical logic encoded in COBOL source code. This solution is designed to enable large organizations to quickly and easily extract the inherent value in their legacy Cobol systems in order to recapture years of knowledge.

COBOLMiner 2.0 is based on the software industry standard Unified Modeling Language (UML) and integrates with IBM’s Rational Rose, the leading visual modeling tool for UML. The tool automatically reverse-engineers COBOL source code to create a visual model of both the structural and procedural characteristics of the system, and significantly reduces the amount of time needed to reconstruct the business knowledge embedded within COBOL systems. 

COBOLMiner 2.0 eliminates the error-prone process of manually going through source code to determine how it fits together. The analysis engine “reads” the source code and very quickly builds up a multi-layered picture of the system using a standard UML notation that most software developers either already know or can grasp very quickly.
