United Way of Johnson County Announces
Record-Breaking Campaign Total Celebration includes Grant Awards to Partner Agencies & Programs
CORALVILLE: March 23, 2005. The United Way of Johnson County
announced a record-breaking total of $1,835,600 for the 2004
Campaign at today's Celebration of Community Impact at The Levitt
Center for University Advancement. This record-breaking campaign
total represents an increase of almost 5% over the previous year's
campaign, and an increase of more than $22,000 over the previous
record set in 2002. Campaign Chair Jeffrey A. Disterhoft made the
announcement along with Resource Development Chair Mike Beck and
Board Chair Tim Krumm.
The campaign's success can be attributed to several factors
including the outstanding example set by the 2004 Trailblazer
Companies, Mercy Iowa City, Iowa State Bank & Trust, and City of
North Liberty whose individual campaigns averaged over a 10%
increase. The Trailblazer Companies ran their workplace campaigns
early last fall to serve as models for other company campaigns.
Procter & Gamble under the leadership of Eddie Caldwell, plant
manager, was named 'Company of the Year'.
Special recognition was awarded to Pearson Educational Measurement
and Pearson Government Solutions for their outstanding workplace
campaign increase of approximately $23,000.
The Celebration focused on the positive impact that the additional
funds will have on the community. Community volunteers had
previously identified four priority areas of needed services, known
as Focus Areas: Supporting Children, Youth and Families; Promoting
Mental and Physical Health; Meeting Basic and Emergency Needs; and
Assisting the Elderly and/or People with Special Needs. Community
Impact Council co-Chairs Steve Noack and Paula Kasper-Lundahl
announced the Mission Investment Grants at the Celebration.
Community Priority Grants, also in the four Focus Areas, were
announced last fall.
United Way touches the lives of one in three residents of Johnson
County through its network of partner agencies and funded programs
to support our area's challenged individuals and families with a
coordinated network of health and human services. LIFE Skills, Inc.
Executive Director Gillian Fox was named as 'Agency Director of the
Year'.
Countless hours of volunteer time are given each year to United Way
in both raising the funds and reviewing grant applications prior to
allocating the funds. Campaign Cabinet volunteer Susan Fleitman,
General Mills plant manager, was named 'Volunteer of the Year'.
United Way of Johnson County is a locally governed, non-profit
organization that leads the community in addressing health and human
service needs by generating and allocating funds and directing
resources to enhance the well being of our community. For more
