Former HHS Executive Kerry Weems Joins Vangent

 Leading Healthcare Expert Brings 28 Years of Government Experience to Vangent

ARLINGTON, VA, September 15, 2009 – Vangent, Inc., a leading global provider of information management and strategic business process outsourcing solutions, announced today that former Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) official Kerry Weems will join its leadership team. He will serve as Senior Vice President, Health Strategy.  In this role, Mr. Weems will lead Vangent’s strategy development in the rapidly growing health and health information technology markets.

In January, Mr. Weems ended a 28-year career with the federal government and held the position of Administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and was also Vice Chairman of the American Health Information Community. In those capacities, Mr. Weems implemented the Medicare e-prescribing program, began pilot projects for electronic health records and personal health records, and instituted a number of landmark payment reforms, including non-payment for certain medical errors. 

Prior to that, Mr. Weems served in a number of senior positions at the Department of Health and Human Services, including Deputy Chief of Staff, Chief Financial Officer, and Chief Budget Officer overseeing a budget exceeding $700 billion. While at HHS, he led the implementation of the largest and most successful automated financial management system in government, the Unified Financial Management System.

Mr. Weems has served both Republican and Democratic administrations and received the highest award for civilian employees, the Presidential Rank award, from Presidents Clinton and Bush.

Mr. Weems holds an MBA from the University of New Mexico, a BA in Philosophy from New Mexico State University and a BBA in Management from New Mexico State University.
