July 16, 2009Vangent’s Chief Medical Officer, Gary Klein, MD, Selected to Serve On HIMSS Physicians’ Community Steering Committee
ARLINGTON, VA, July 16, 2009 – Vangent, Inc., a leading global provider of information management and strategic business process outsourcing solutions, announced today the selection of Dr. Gary Klein to the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) Physicians’ Community Steering Committee, a joint effort of HIMSS and the Association of Medical Directors of Information Systems (AMDIS). “I am pleased to welcome such a highly regarded and respected physician as Dr. Klein to the Physicians’ Community Steering Committee,” Steven L. Arnold, MD, Chair, HIMSS Physicians’ Community. “This has been a transformative year in healthcare and I believe his deep expertise will help set the right direction for the Physicians’ Community and contribute to the many important upcoming initiatives including its recommendations to the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology.” The aim of the Physicians’ Community Steering Committee is to articulate a cohesive voice for HIMSS physicians and to provide leadership, guidance and domain expertise to HIMSS activities, industry initiatives, and collaborations with physician societies across the country. Dr. Klein was selected among hundreds of other applicants to participate in one of the most important and influential committees in the HIMSS organization. “I am honored to have been selected to serve on the HIMSS Physicians’ Community Steering Committee and look forward to supporting its efforts in fostering a more focused strategy within HIMSS for physicians engaged in health information technology and management systems,” said Dr. Klein, Chief Medical Officer, Vangent. Dr. Klein currently serves as Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Vangent where he is responsible for directing innovative health information management and technology solutions for Vangent's healthcare customers. He draws from more than 20 years of notable achievements throughout the healthcare industry, including senior positions at the U. S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Department of Defense, Kaiser Permanente, and Sanofi Pharmaceuticals, Inc. Dr. Klein holds a Doctor of Medicine degree from the Medical College of Georgia School of Medicine, a Master’s in Public Health from the Emory University School of Medicine, a Master of Business Administration degree from the State University System of Georgia and a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of California at Davis. Dr. Klein completed his residency training at the University of Arizona School of Medicine Phoenix campus and the Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia. Dr. Klein also currently serves as the President of the American Academy of Disaster Medicine, and was the former Chairman of the Board of Directors for the American Academy of Urgent Care Medicine.
