March 23, 2009Vangent Successfully Demonstrates Health IT Interoperability with Sun Microsystems at Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise 2009 ConnectathonARLINGTON, Va., March 23, 2009– Vangent, Inc., a leading global provider of information management and strategic business process outsourcing solutions, today announced that together with Sun Microsystems, the companies successfully demonstrated health IT interoperability at the 2009 Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise (IHE) Connectathon. The Vangent/Sun demonstration focused on health information exchange and illustrated the value of open source, standards-based technologies to facilitate critical healthcare information sharing. As a result of the successful demonstration, Vangent and Sun are qualified to participate in the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) Interoperability Showcase in Chicago, April 5-8, 2009. During the Connectathon event, Vangent and Sun demonstrated conformance to health IT standards adopted by the Federal Government’s Healthcare Information Technology Standards Panel (HITSP). HITSP serves as a cooperative partnership between the public and private sectors for the purpose of achieving a widely accepted and useful set of standards specifically to enable and support widespread interoperability among healthcare software applications, as they will interact in a local, regional and national health information network for the United States. “Vangent has been working at the forefront of health IT interoperability by designing, building and operating solutions in the government and private sectors that are ideally aligned with the goals of the Obama Administration’s healthcare reform strategy,” stated Mac Curtis, President & CEO of Vangent. “Through our collaboration with Sun, we successfully demonstrated the technologies and solutions needed by the Federal government, state government agencies and healthcare providers to share critical healthcare information, paving the way for a national electronic health record.” “Sun’s software infrastructure technology, including GlassFish Enterprise Service Bus (ESB), Java Composite Application Platform Suite (CAPS) and our identity management portfolio of products can help healthcare organizations around the world securely exchange information, manage patient identities and consolidate disparate health records into ‘single patient views.’ We look forward to working with Vangent and demonstrating our interoperability capabilities at HIMSS in April,” said Wayne Owens, Director of Sun’s Global Healthcare Software Practice. The IHE Connectathon is the healthcare IT industry’s largest interoperability testing event. During the Connectathon, systems exchange information with complementary systems from multiple vendors, performing all of the transactions required for the roles they have selected in support of defined clinical use cases, called IHE profiles. The Connectathon provides detailed validation of the participants’ interoperability and compliance with IHE profiles. Sun and Vangent leveraged the Sun GlassFish ESB and Java CAPS products to demonstrate the following IHE profiles:
Sun and Vangent made use of the IHE Connectathon event as a proving ground for standards-based solutions the companies have established that enable secure health information exchange across organizations and communities at the federal, state and local levels. The companies will continue to support industry and government standards to ensure their business and technology solutions facilitate improved healthcare services within the US and internationally.
